Sounds of Torture

I've been researching torture scenes for some upcoming auditions and roles. There has been a lot of self discovery along the way. I've learned that I cannot watch back to back torture scenes without starting to feel quesey AND I should not eat lunch while I am doing said research. I've also noticed that I start to tense up and CLOSE MY EYES...which forces me to watch the scene over again. Ugh.

My research has included the following scenes today:
    * Reservoir Dogs - even creepier because it's set to a musical ditty
*Shoot Em Up - Paul Giamatti...enough said
*Marathon Man - I hate the dentist even more now
*The Jackel - hate to admit it, but this one kind of made me laugh...Jack Black
      screams like a girl
    * Hostel - the ENTIRE movie is a torture scene
    * Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake) - by far hardest scene to watch terrible movie

And that's all I could handle for today. What's your favorite torture scene?

It's Called TACT, Sir

When a lady tells you that she doesn't want to answer your question, do the gentlemanly thing and don't press her. ESPECIALLY if she has JUST met you and turned down your request politely. And, please, Sir if you think the rules don't apply to you, they really really do. Do not say in a condescending tone, "Are you serious? You can tell me." That does not win my favor. No, quite the contrary.

I'm Bringing Sexy Back

With this heat...let me tell you, I really am a sexy girl. I only wish I had a picture to prove it! I was sitting in a car with no air conditioning for over 4 hours yesterday! The heat index put it at 110 degrees. I went through 9 bottles of water, a lot of wet paper towels, and a few periods where I saw spots...when I got out of the car for lunch, there were wet patches under my chest (nice), under my arms and you could see a wet line where the seatbelt had been. I'm telling ya, I'm a REAL catch! For those of you thinking I have a death wish, it was for a commercial. It's all in a day's work!

Simon Cowell Has it Right

You wouldn't land a job with a ton of typos on your resume. You wouldn't be a master carpenter if you didn't know something about wood. AND you shouldn't be an entertainer if you don't have any talent. I'm just speaking for me, but I love Simon Cowell. He tells the truth and doesn't sugar coat it! (Maybe I'd feel differently if he told me I was absolute rubbish.) BUT and there's always a BUT...not everyone can win the prize. I'd rather know up front that I'm terrible then go on making a fool of myself. Listen, if you don't know you're rubbish, you can never get better!

I feel like Stuart Smalley

Whew...it's been a tough couple of weeks. Just gotta keep on going and repeating my mantra. "I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And doggone it, people like me." :)

Motivation

I'm used to thinking, "What's my motivation?" when preparing for a scene. But now I'm trying to find the motivation to get back out there in this heat to RUN. Had a little minor surgery on my eye a little over two weeks ago and was told NO exercise for two weeks. Well, those two weeks have come and gone. Alright. Now, it's time  to get back out there and do this!

The Kindness of Strangers

I know...a little too Blanche DuBois of me. What can I say? Maybe I've been in the South too long? It never fails to surprise me when a total stranger goes out of their way to help me out. It really makes my day.
